From the Top to the Bottom of the Mission

Hi everyone!

What a great week it has been. We have been so busy I don't even know where the time has gone. Last week we had exchanges every single day with our Zone leaders and our Sister Training Leaders. It was fun to be with them and help them with their zones. The mission is improving little by little. It has come so far since I got here, I often think back to when I first got here and the improvement that has happened. Great things are happening in the Ghana Kumasi Mission.

Last Monday we started our road trip for zone conferences. We drove up Monday morning to Techiman and had an exchange that night, and another one the next day with the Zone leaders. We drove to Sunyani and had a zone Conference and then traveled back to Techiman for the night. That next day we drove to Tamale, for the Tamale zone conference the next day. In Tamale we were eating with the elders and we had rice, beans and some meat. Now, I am used to just eating everything now. Most of the time it is mystery meat and so you just eat it and don't care what it is. Well I heard that up north they like to chop dog but I never thought I would eat some. Well as I was eating, I came to find out that the meat we were eating was dog. So I can add that to the many things I have eaten out here. It actually wasn't that bad, little bit of a smoky flavor but the northerners love to eat it.

Right after the tamale zone conference president asked if we would drive up to Bolgatanga for an exchange with some elders. So we took the two elders with us and drove another three hours north to Bolgatanga. Driving outside of Kumasi is great. You go from the city to the Bush. There are little towns every so often and the further north you get it gets very flat. There aren't many hills at all and it's all flat with some trees and grass. It's very beautiful. I love the villages you see along the way. The houses are made out of mud and they are little round mud huts. They have grass roofs and actually look pretty cool. There are usually about 4-7 of the huts in a circle connected by mud walls and that's where a family will stay. One day I want to stop and meet some of the people who stay there. I didn't have time this past week so maybe next month when we go. I tried to get some pictures but it didn't work out to well, next time I'll try to take some better pictures.

Bolgatanga is the very top of out mission and that next day on Saturday we had an exchange with these elders. It was my first time going up that far and I absolutely loved Bolga. They speak English up there and it took me awhile to get used to the little kids speaking English and the older people speaking English as well. I was not used to that at all because in Kumasi they don't like English. I was able to go with elder Simpson and we had such a good exchange. We met so many great people and had some great experiences.

Yesterday we left around 8:30am from Bulga and traveled back to Kumasi. It took about 10 hours to get back so we were pretty tired. I have officially been from top to bottom in our mission.

When we got back Sunday evening, the Coombs (an office couple that we are close with) had made chili and cornbread for Halloween and so we were grateful for that after a long car ride. I honestly forgot it was Halloween until we got back and they had made dinner for us. But it is nice to be back in our own apartment again.

This next week the busyness continues. We have three more zone conferences and two more exchanges this week and then we are getting ready for transfers. This transfer has flown by and I feel like I just got here to my area. I know that these next couple transfers that I am assistant, they will fly by.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween and a great October, happy November! I hope all is well back home, thank you for the love and support. I love and appreciate it you guys

Love Elder Morgan

  1. What a great road trip and the experiences that go with working with so many different elders. I had to google map your mission and follow you up N10 as you went from town to town. We also had dog in my early mission in the outer islands of Hawaii. We knew it was coming so was able to pass. The mud homes helps one to really appreciate what we have here in our little town of Fair Oaks. Keep up the great work.
