A New Assignment

Hi everyone! Sorry it's been a bit since I have sent an email. I have just been busy busy. I think I mentioned last time that our mission president was taking Elder Mbuyi and I around to the mission for zone conferences so I guess I will give some highlights from there.

Like I mentioned that past transfer has been so crazy. Definitely a good crazy but we were very busy going around to the mission. We went to all the zone conferences in Kumasi the first week and then that Sunday after church President Kunz and his wife picked Elder Mbuyi and I up and started our road trip out to Tamale. We drove 5 hours to Techiman and stayed the night there at the zone leader apartment and continued the next day another 5 hours to Tamale. It was so nice to be outside the city. Don't get me wrong I have absolutely loved it in the city but it was nice to see a bit of change. Tamale was great, and so much different then Kumasi. That first night was actually my first time getting cold in Ghana. During the day it gets very hot but at night it cools down. Most of the transportation in tamale are motos so I wasn't used to that cuz in the city we have uber, bolt, taxi and trotro. It was fun to be with the elders up there and spend some time with them. We stayed in tamale for two nights and traveled 5 hours to Sunyani. Again another great zone conference and after the conference we drove 4 hours back home and got back late that night. For two weeks we were either in zone conference or going on exchanges with other elders. We really had a good time but it was nice to be back in our area and in our own apartment to sleep.

On Thursday we had interviews with President. All of our district came to our stake center and after interviews president and his wife wanted to go proselyting with Elder Mbuyi and I. We took them around our area and we had a lot of fun. He had the chance to meet some of the people we have been teaching and even some of our recent converts. 

I wish you guys could meet some of the people we have been able to teach and become friends with. The people out here are so great. I can tell you guys about a couple of the miracle people we have found.

I think I mentioned a guy named Eric to all yall but I am not sure if I told you his story.

Elder Mbuyi and I have been trying to find the elect in our area and some weeks ago we were walking the streets by our Chapel. We were playing with the kids, we were playing  with the neighborhood monkey, laughing and just having fun. A guy called us to come to him so we went over and he told us that he had been watching us for about a week now. He told us that he saw us laughing and playing with the children, and he wanted to know who we were and why we were so happy all the time. We introduced ourselves and told him that we were missionaries for the church. We got to talking with him and his name is Eric. In the conversation Eric told us that "this" is exactly what he was looking for. He told us he wants to join the church and then convert his family after. Elder Mbuyi and I looked at each other and just smiled. Eric was someone that the Lord had been preparing for us and it taught me a great lesson. People watch us all the time and A simple smile goes a long way. Sometimes we don't know the effect our actions can have on someone else. And most importantly that people around us recognize the light that is in us. We invited Eric to come to church and that Sunday he came to church 45 min early. We got there at 8:30 and saw Eric sitting in the back. We went up to him and he said "elders! I have been waiting here for 15 minutes waiting for sacrament meeting to start, where have you been?" That was a great experience for me and a big testimony builder. The Lord is truly preparing people all around us. Eric will be baptized on Oct 10 and we have started to meet with his family as well

There are so many experiences like this but one last one I will share is about brother Marcus. We got a call while we were in Techiman from a man who ran into some missionaries after a zone conference the week before. He called us and we talked for a good little while. We told him we wouldn't be back to Kumasi until that Friday and so we couldn't meet with him until then. While we were talking with him we came to find out that brother Marcus wasn't a Ghanaian. He is originally from Cameroon. Apparently he was taught by American missionaries 6 years ago and never had the chance to be baptized. Long story short. He moved to Nigeria and never saw missionaries again for those 6 years. He looked for them but couldn't find them. As time went on he thought he would never find them so he gave up. Some things led him traveling through Togo to come to Ghana. He has been here for about a year and hadn't seen missionaries until that day after zone conference. He stopped them and said that that had been looking for them for 6 years haha. We were able to meet with him at our Chapel when we returned home and yet again, another great man that the Lord was preparing. Since he isn't a Ghanaian he doesn't speak twi. He speaks English and French. Interesting that I speak English and my companion speaks French.  Brother Marcus will also be baptized on Oct 10.

So many great things are happening in Bantama and as we were able to go around to zone Conferences the mission is starting to catch the vision. Miracles are starting to happen across the mission and its great to witness.

President called me a couple days ago and told me that at transfers he wants me to come be his assistant to replace the AP that is going home at the end of the transfer. So I will leave Elder Mbuyi here in Bantama and travel 30 minutes to Daban to be with Elder Binene (my new companion). I will have a lot more responsibility and just like this last transfer I will now be going to all the zone conferences and giving instructions and will be in charge of all the missionaries. It will be a good experience for me and will teach me lots. I am excited for the new journey I will have. I am sure I will stay there for a good chunk of the rest of my mission so we will see how it goes!

Sorry this email is a bit longer but a lot has happened. There are probably things I left out so maybe my family can fill you guys in on the rest. If not, shoot me an email I would love to here from all y'all. I hope you guys have a great week this week and have fun! I love you all

Travelling Trainers

Hey!

Hi everyone, this past week has been a good one. The week started with us traveling 3 hours to Obuasi. It was my first time going to Obuasi and it was really nice! It was such a different feel then Kumasi and it was nice to change things up as I have been in Kumasi my whole time in Ghana. 

We were able to stay with some of our elders and on Monday we decided to climb the mountain. Obuasi has the mountains of Ghana. They aren't anything like the Utah mountains but I guess it is better then nothing. We climbed up and it overlooked all of Obuasi. It was a nice little place. The weather was also very nice, it was a lot cooler down there and so I enjoyed. 

We stayed for district counsels and came back Wednesday afternoon. The rest of the evening we spent in our area. On Thursday we had our mission leadership council and it went very well. It went a lot better then the last one so that is good. We were able to talk about a lot and it just went really well. President even had elder Mbuyi and I give an instruction at MLC. We have been having a lot of success in our area and are finding ways to move the work forward in different ways. President noticed so he wanted us to tell the mlc about it. After the meeting president pulled us aside and said that he would like elder Mbuyi and I to go to all of the zone conferences and give an instruction to all the missionaries in the mission. So we will have to travel with president to the whole mission these next two weeks. Tomorrow they will start and we have one every day until Friday. Then next week we will travel to tamale which is a 10 hour drive and next Thursday to Techiman which is a 5 hour drive. We are going to be very busy for the rest of the transfer with our area, our zone, and now traveling to all the zone conferences. But we will make it.

MLC took all day Thursday and we met our Dunkwa elders at our apartment as they stayed the night for our exchange we had with them on Friday. It was a good exchange and we all learned a lot from it. We left back to Dunkwa with the elders Friday night which was 3 hours because we had to do a baptismal Interview for our Obuasi elders on Saturday. We came back from Obuasi on Saturday because we had to see some people in our area. Saturday evening and Sunday we spent in our area with our people so it was nice and much needed. 

Like I said we have just been crazy busy, and these next two weeks will be crazy as well. But through all of it I am able to see the lords hand in this work. I am loving mission and the experiences I am having.
